■ステートメント
コロナウイルスの拡大とともに、社会は「離れること」を正しさとして内面化していった。
小池百合子都知事によって提示された「三密です!」という注意を促す言葉は、人と人との間に明確な境界を引いた。
大きな施設のエレベーターには、床に刻まれた足型のサインまでつけられた。
本作は、その緊張から解放されたいという衝動から生まれた。
巨大なQRコードの前に立った鑑賞者は読み取ろうとするほどに後退していく。
そして読み取ったスマートフォンの画面に現れたのは「Thank you!　Social distance!」。
結果として自然に“適切な距離”をとる、人間心理を上手く利用した作品だ。
タイトルは、自己で動くことができるという「Self can」と、読み取るという意味の「Scan」を掛けている。

■Statement
As the coronavirus spread, society internalized "keeping distance" as the right thing to do.
The warning "Avoid the three Cs!" issued by Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike drew a clear boundary between people.
Even footprints were etched into the floor of elevators in large facilities.
This work was born from the urge to be freed from that tension.
Viewers standing in front of a giant QR code find themselves stepping back the more they try to scan it.
And what appears on the screen of their smartphone after scanning is "Thank you! Social distance!"
As a result, it is a work that cleverly utilizes human psychology to naturally take an "appropriate distance."
The title is a play on words, combining "Self can," meaning the ability to move on one's own, and "Scan," meaning to read.
